2022-05-19 - First Mead Batch ๐ฏ
<< Back
The first batch is done!

A bit cloudy (straining after that picture really helped), but all things considered, it was pretty good. Our hydrometer was busted, so we couldn't get a reading of the alcohol percentage. By tasting it, I'm guessing it's ~3%. We think the citric acid in the orange peels may have killed some of the yeast, since we put all the ingredients in during primary fermentation. In our upcoming batches, we're going to add the flavouring in the secondary fermentation phase instead; we'll see if that helps up the alcohol percentage.
Speaking of the taste, it tastes lovely, at least! It's noticebly fruity ๐, in a subtle way. The orange peels came through well. It's very easy to drink, and quite enjoyable.
A great learning experience. We'll be making plenty more, and later on once we've tried a few more batches, we'll be doing so with great honey from around these parts. I can't wait to taste the difference that'll make.
Skรกl!
